The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) on Friday organised a special championships to fine-tune boxers for the upcoming second edition of the regional boxing league. The championships will be a weekly affair every Friday at the Prisons Canteen, Accra, till the regional championships begin later next month. Mr Gideon Quartey, Vice-Chairman of the association told the GNA Sports that the motive behind the event was to put interested boxers in good shape ahead of the competition. This, he said, will also be a platform for selecting boxers for next year's international competition against their counterparts from the United States of America. "This is also a good platform for boxers who graduated from the Novice championships to pitch their strength against some improved colleagues before the championships proper." On the bill, Jessy Lartey defeated Duke Micah in all Fit Square Gym affair in Light flyweight division, while Mathias Sulley of Square Deal Gym accounted for Fit Square's Emmanuel Quartey in the Bantamweight class. Joshua Addy of Attoh Quarshie Gym made mince meat of Isaac Dormenya of Fit Square in the Featherweight division. In the Light welterweight division, Attoh Quarshie's Offei Dodoo defeated Michael Pappoe of Panix Gym, while Victor Kuwornu of Bronx Gym replicated a similar feat on Ashaiman Gym's Felix Agbozo.
