Accra, Sept. 30, GNA - The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), on Thursday called on all students to "take ownership" of the National Housing and Population Census, by immensely aiding the process, especially through public education. A statement signed by Mr Anthony Afriyie Abotsi, NUGS President, said: "We further inform our students that educating the public in relation to the census exercise is not the duty of the state agencies and the media alone. It is equally our responsibility as well." He said the Union had observed some challenges confronting the process and the reluctance of a cross-section of the citizenry to co-operate. NUGS, therefore, called on the Ghana Police Service to strengthen its contingency measures in order to stop persons who might want to take undue advantage of the census process to perpetuate illegal activities. The NUGS congratulated the Ghana Statistical Service and the Census team for the enthusiasm with which they are serving the country, urging them to step up their efforts for the success of the exercise.
