Miss Malaika, Laurie Naa Lamle Lawson, who celebrated her birthday with children on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, presented 200 treated mosquito nets to the unit. Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the hospital, Mrs. Mildred Koomson thanked Laurie for her kind gesture and admitted that indeed it would take a warm hearted person to remember the sick on his or her birthday. With support from Nestle Ghana Ltd, Coca Cola Company, CCTC, SPPC, Rabina Décor and Toys and Netmark from USAID, Laurie’s birthday with close to 200 sick children, was made very memorable with a lot to eat and drink.  Prior to her visit to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Laurie on February 14 presented boxes of Kalypo Drink, Pure Joy Fruit juice, candies and biscuits to the Christian Faith Foster Home at Frafraha in the Greater Accra Region, where she and the children had a jolly good time partying on St. Valentine’s Day.  While presenting the items to Mr. Adu Boahene, founder of the Foster Home, Laurie explained that her humble gesture was to share love with the children as the day was one for love and sharing. Shortly after she was crowned Miss Malaika 2007, Laurie paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Tawiah III, who presented her with a gift of  dressing seeds and the Ga symbol in the form of a plaque.  The 21-year-old was crowned Miss Malaika on November 3, where she took up the responsibility to spearhead the campaign to eradicate malaria in the country among other social responsibilities.
