The post election crisis in Ivory Coast has generated a lot of public interest in Ghana with the seeming support of president Atta Mills to Mr. Gbagbo being the most talk about issue. I find the comment of the president not to contribute troops to an ECOWAS decision of which he was a party to as unfortunate and a support of dictatorship on the African continent. President Mills is ruling Ghana through the ballot box, but does not agree that Ivory Coast should do same. What would have been President Mills’s reaction if the new patriotic party had refused to seed power to him because they suspect massive vote rigging in the Volta region? Am sure he would have behave like Ouattara, seeking for international support or might order NDC footsoldier to match to the castle or to the street. As a very respected country, with good democratic credentials, Ghana is expected to show more concern to the Ivorian crisis than the lukewarm attitude of our president and his government. His mentor, Nkrumah am sure would have champion the course for the removal of Gbagbo should he be alive today. He was one man who abhors leaders ruling without the mandate of the people and Gbagbo is ruling without the mandate of the people. Gbagbo via Bare Fact on TV Africa told the whole of Ghana that the crisis is more of constitutionality with government sponsored journalist to Ivory Coast. Interestingly, he sees nothing wrong with the 100% composition of the constitutional council who are loyal to him but sees everything wrong with the composition of the independence electoral commission. The constitutional council has no locus to cancel 60,000 electoral result based on a suspicion of electoral fraud. The mandate of the constitutional council is to either validate or cancel the entire results. So the constitutional council itself has breach the constitution of Ivory Coast. Would president Mills have agreed if the supreme court of Ghana had overturned the ruling the electoral commission? The answer is big no. So why should Ouatara stand unconcern for his hard worn victory to be taken away from him by one greedy dictator. I call on Ouattara not to leave the population of Ivory Coast hostage of a dictator. President Mills should show more concern than what he is doing. He is gradually eroding our hard won reputation in mediation and peace talks courtesy Nkrumah by his double standard and double talks.
