The former Mayor of Kumasi Maxwell Kofi Jumah has apologized for what he said was a slip in his remark about his successor, at the Kumasi Metropolitan assembly.
The Member of Parliament for Asokwa is said to have inferred that Madam Patricia Apiagyei only got to be Mayor during the NPP administration because she offered sexual favors.
The MP made the comments during an interview to react to supposed plans by Madam Apiagyei to contest him for the Asokwa seat. Angered by the comments, some female residents in Kumasi, led by NDC Regional Women’s Organizer, Ama Sarpomaa threatened to demonstrate against him.
But Mr. Jumah said he never sought to denigrate his successor. The women have accepted the apology and called off their demonstration.
