President John Evans Atta Mills and his Vice John Dramani Mahama on Sunday November 21, 2010 joined thousands of people at the Tamale Vitting Senior High School Park to pay their last respect to the late NDC Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Sumani Zakariah. Alhaji Sumani Zakariah died on Monday November 8, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a protracted illness. Other dignitaries at the function included former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Dr. Obed Asamoah and Dr. Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the NDC. In a short tribute, President Mills reiterated his administration’s commitment to always stand for justice for all especially in the case of the Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani murder. He described the late Alhaji Sumani Zakariah as a selfless and dedicated party leader and urged party leadership to emulate his legacy. President Mills warned NDC leaders and supporters against all forms of internal bickering and that if his administration fails to deliver its Better Ghana agenda all of them will sink together. He promised to reward all those who sacrificed for the party’s return to power in 2008 and concluded that the party will clinch onto power in 2012. President Mills reminded politicians of their responsibility to unite Ghana as a means of nurturing the nation’s democracy. Several sympathizers including former President John Agyekum Kufuor donated food items and money towards the upkeep of the late Alhaji Sumani’s family.
