President John Evans Atta Mills says he is optimistic that the ongoing Ya-Na murder trial will bring justice for the Dagbon State. He said government would make sure those responsible for the gruesome murder of the Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II are brought to book.
The President hence appealed to the chiefs and people of Dagbon to exercise restraint with government as steps have been taken to apprehend the murderers of the late King.
His comments came days after former President Jerry Rawling’s condemnation of government for not pursuing justice in the case of the Ya-Na murder.
President Mills was speaking at the Gukpegu Regent’s palace on his arrival in Tamale ahead of his visit to attend the final funeral rites of the late Northern Regional NDC Chairman, Alhaji Sumani Zakariah which comes off Sunday November 21, 2010.
He said government will not condone any evil deeds and that justice will be pursued both for the criminal and the innocent. “We are determined that those who were responsible for this gruesome murder will be brought to justice. We have started but we have not finished because when it comes to criminal cases, time is no bar. We are continuing and whenever we discover any fresh evidence we shall not hesitate to make sure that people pay for their crime and their evil deeds” he assured.
President Mills later paid a courtesy call on the Tamale Chief, Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan.
