The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has called on Ghanaians to make 2011 a year of peace, reconciliation and consensus-building. He stressed that the right of the people to choose in multi-party democracy should not result in resentment, chaos and intimidation as being experienced in Ghana. The chief made the call at an end of year get together, organised by the Dormaa Traditional Council for heads of department and identifiable organisations at Dormaa–Ahenkro. A total of 128 second cycle and tertiary students were presented with bursaries from the Dormaaman Education Endowment Fund at the ceremony. Osagyefo Agyemang Badu deplored the growing practice in Ghana where families, friends, couples and even professions allowed their ranks to be divided by mere political differences. “If we have chosen multiparty democracy, then we must be prepared to embrace different political parties and tolerate divergent views, rather than seeing our political adversaries as enemies, that must be vilified or eliminated at the least opportunity”, he stressed. He appealed through the government of Ghana, to all stakeholders in the Ivorian post-election crisis, to endeavour to resolve the impasse in a manner that would not threaten the lives of people and the destruction of their vital installations. Osagyefo Agyemang Badu commended the management and playing body of Aduana Football Club for winning the coveted Glo Premier League title at their first attempt, which also qualified the team play in the African champions’ league competition in 2011. He appealed to all well-meaning Ghanaians to support the team to make the desirable impacts among its peers. Presenting the scholarship awards, Mr Steven Hayford Baah, secretary of the Fund, said the 10 year old club had so far assisted 1,070 students at the secondary and tertiary levels with GHC120, 000. He said a total of 128 students comprising 78 second cycle and 50 tertiary students would benefit from this year’s package of GH C13, 600.00 Mr Baah urged the beneficiaries to learn hard to justify the investments in them by the government, parents, philanthropists and other scholarship schemes.
