Naa Salifu Dakurah IV, the Chief of Han in the Jirapa District, has expressed his gratitude to the government for establishing a police station at Hain. “I am happy to inform you that the Ghana Police Service is present in Hain with energetic and enthusiastic young men working tirelessly to sustain peace, protect lives and properties”, he old his people. The Chief said the opening of the police station confirmed the President’s promise of being a father for all and appealed to the police to foster a closer and sustained working relationship with members of the community to flush out criminals and their activities. Naa Dakurah was speaking at the climax of the “Tinmaal” Festival of the Chiefs and people of the Hain Traditional Area on Thursday at Hain. He said the festival was instituted in 2007 not just to commemorate his enskinment but also to create a platform to sustain peace and unity among the people. Naa Dakurah said the objectives of the festival were to foster unity among the people, showcase the rich cultural heritage and facilitate the rapid development of Hain and its surrounding communities. The Chief appealed to the government to establish a Senior High School in Hain, upgrade their roads and facilitate the timely completion of the Hain market structures. Naa Dakurah also commended Rural Aid Action Programme (RAAP) a local NGO based in the community, for its contribution to the creation of the festival and the general socio-economic development of the area. Mr. Cezar Kale, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, congratulated the chief for initiating the festival and urged them to ensure that it grows from strength to strength in order to attract tourist to the area. He also commended RAAP for partnering with the University for Development Studies (UDS) to run the RAAP-UDS programme at Hain and urged the youth of the area to take advantage of the programme to have tertiary education. Mr. Kale appealed to the chiefs to liaise with the Jirapa District Assembly to ensure that people build their houses according to the layout of the area to prevent future demolition. He said the Hain Traditional Area would soon benefit from one of the five Polyclinics to be constructed in the region. Mr. Bernard K.
