Military Holds Open Day In Kumasi Website
As part of activities commemorating the 51st Independence of Ghana, the 4 Infantry Battalion (4BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces held an Open Day at its Garrison in Kumasi on Friday. The event, which was also aimed at fostering cordial civil-military relations featured Guard Mounting displays, displaying of weapons, amusement shooting and a tour of the Armed Forces Museum among others. School children, voluntary associations and the general public within the Metropolis thronged the 4BN Square venue for the event and enjoyed themselves with the exciting military displays and drills. Patrons of the event also visited the Museum, where they viewed historical artefacts and antiques of the British colonial army during the First and Second World Wars, the “Sagrentti War” and the Yaa Asantewaa War in Asanteman. Portraits of stalwarts of the Ashanti Kingdom and the British Colonial Army, which had been kept in the Museum for centuries were also shown to members of the general public. Later in a press briefing, Major William Agyapong, Second-in-Command of the 4BN said the occasion, which is marked annually is an attempt to dispel public perception of the military and correct the misconceptions, to enhance civil-military interaction. He said the event was also an occasion to open up the barracks to the general public to enable them have an insight into the disciplines and functions of the Army.
