Alhaji Amadu Tijani Abdul Rahaman, a 62-year-old contractor was elected as Northern Regional chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP) to steer its affairs towards winning election 2008.
Alhaji Tijani polled 142 votes to beat Mr Albert Atutiga, the incumbent chairman, who got 57 votes to place third while Alhaji Issah Zero, a contender placed second with 59 votes.
The entire leadership and all the Presidential aspirants of the CPP were in Tamale on Sunday to observe the regional delegates' congress of the Party.
Mr Iddrisu Abu and Mr Mohammed Iddrisu were elected first and second vice chairmen, respectively, while Mr Alhassan Bashiru Dabali, won the post of Regional Organiser.
The rest of the regional executives are: Mr Frank Langa Dari, Regional Secretary, Abubakari Forgor, Youth Organiser, Hajia Sanatu Alhassan, Women's Organiser, Mr. Alhassan Bawa, Education Secretary and Alhaji Yahaya Baba, Treasurer.
Mr Alidu Dauda, Principal Electoral Officer, who supervised the election described it as free and fair.
Dr Edmund Delle, National Chairman of the party who swore-in the new leaders, advised them to use every opportunity to win more souls for the Party to win the 2008 elections.
He said there was now good will for the CPP and that with the new regional executives put in place they would work hard to ensure victory for Party.
