Citi FM's annual party for the children on admission in hospital during the Christmas season has closed successfully on Boxing Day at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
At about 11:00AM after a short prayer from Pastor Wengam the party started; Staff of Citi FM and volunteers were taken around the Children's' Ward to distribute toys, presents and invite the kids out for their party.
The party started on a sad note when we were informed of a mother who had just lost her baby. Immediately Pastor Wengam and Abadio quickly went it to console her and offer her words of encouragement.
The state in which some of the children were drew tears from the visitors, plus the thought of these children spending the holiday season in the hospital; some of whom barely able to move was heart wrenching. Some children had conditions ranging from burns to tuberculosis.
After the hospital rounds, stuffed animals, snacks and drinks were distributed among the children who were seated. Some children who had been discharged days earlier were invited to join in the celebrations. Not left out were nurses, some doctors and other other support staff on duty were all feted with the goodies we had brought with us.
Then came dancing time where nursing mothers were seen cuddling their babies and enjoying the music, plus children with IV lines set in dancing to the music provided by the presenters of Citi FM and a Christian musical outreach group "One Accord" which had offered to entertain the kids for free.
A kids from an orphanage in the Eastern Region were also available to treated the children to a cultural display. Some of the children and mothers we spoke to expressed their deepest appreciation to Citi FM for the gifts.
At about one o'clock a "truck load" of food provided by Wok Inn Chinese Restaurant arrived and you can only imagine the excitement in the eyes of the children when they were handed the packs of food. After everyone had eaten to their fill, Nii Amah Dagadu, Programmes Manager Citi FM, on behalf of the station and her donors presented boxes of biscuits, toiletries and hospital supplies to the hospital.
Early a cheque of GH¢2000 had been presented to Children's Ward by Mr. Amoafo Yeboah on behalf of Citi FM and MTN Dealers. The party continued till late afternoon by which time most parents and their wards had started trickling out.
This year's "Help A Christmas Child Project" really succeeded in bringing a smile onto the faces of the sick children. Citi FM would like to thank all who helped make this project a success. The "Help A Christmas Child Project" forms part of Citi FM's Corporate Social Responsibilities activities.
